July 2018 SERVICE STARTS NOW THE UAP MAKATI CBD CHAPTER INDUCTION CEREMONIES Story by: Ar. Joselito Loreto L. Bersamina Jr., UAP "Passion, Purpose, Productivity" is the new slogan of the UAP Makati CBD Chapter as it welcomed its new set of officers and new members for the fiscal year of 2018- 2019, in an induction ceremony held at the Raffles Hotel in Makati last July 24, 2018. Largely inspired, and even permitted, by leadership guru Francis Kong, the new slogan personifies CBD's new Chapter President Ar. Michael Frederick Z. Lazo who finally took the helm after serving for several years as Chapter Vice President. Emotions marked the transfer of leadership. Captivated with a sumptuous live music, the annual event witnessed some lachrymose moments when outgoing Chapter President Ar. Sophia Avendaño struggled through tears during her speech, as she remembered the highlights of her second and last term. "I did my best to render service, be in the frontline in most of our activities, waving our banner proudly in the local district area and national events." It would be remembered that Ar. Sophia Avendaño ushered in the full implementation of the CPD Law which saw the UAP Makati CBD Chapter in full throttle to addr the mandatory CPD points required for the renewal of a PRC ID. Armed with the slogan, Service Rest Assured, events had to be organized and planned in accordance with the new CPD law which saw online discussions and other venues of talk as simply divided and displayed mixed and sometimes even violent reactions among architects. But the CBD Chapter remained unfazed. Instead of adding fuel to the flame, the UAP Makati CBD Chapter under the leadership of Ar. Sophia Avendaño, noted for her wit and grace under pressure, was able to provide a total of 16 CPD points with events such as The Architect Talk, The Disaster & Risk Management Talk, the Taal Heritage Tour, and the highly successful The Business of Architecture Lecture Series 4: Introduction to Environmental Planning, which is perhaps a key milestone of Ar. Sophia Avenaño's term, due to its record- breaking attendance. In his turn at the podium, CBD's new Chapter President Ar. Michael Frederick Z. Lazo, or Mic as he is usually called, were equally driven by emotion as he praised his predecessor, Ar. Sophia Avendaño for the seemingly unparalleled fortitude, even enthusing about her dedication and sheer amount of energy to be present in various chapter activities on a single day. His speech resonated with the word "prestige," as he shared his thoughts about joining CBD: "I joined because of the term CBD; I thought joining would bring prestige to me… I was wrong." He then defined it as "the widespread respect and admiration felt for someone or something on the basis of a perception of achievements or quality." Also present during the ceremony were Ar. Delano M. Marzo, Area B3 District Director, administering the Transfer of Gavel; Ar. Mario Arturo V. Lising, Charter President and esteemed founder of UAP Makati CBD Chapter, who gave a speech about CBD's early incarnations and his current activities to introduce management principles among Filipino architects; and, last but definitely not the least, keynote speaker UAP National President Ar. Benjamin K. Panganiban Jr., who breezed through the current activities of the UAP organization on the national level. CBD's new Chapter Vice President Ar. Norvim C. Mallari delivered the closing remarks while new Chapter Directors, Architects Brian Yu and Pearl Cañete, hosted the event.
