WHAT IS HOME INFUSION? Home infusion therapy is the administration of medication through a needle or catheter in a vein and is given in the home setting. Home infusion is proven to be a safe and effective alternative to inpatient care for many medical conditions and therapy types.
Your doctor will send an order to UAB Home Infusion Therapy. The pharmacy team will verify your insurance coverage and estimated costs, if any. We will review your therapy with you prior to starting your infusions and coordinate a home health nurse to help. We will coordinate a delivery date / time and send your medication and infusion supplies to your home.

A dedicated team of professionals will be monitoring your therapy throughout your time with us. If at any time a clinical emergency comes up, we are on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to help you.
HEALTH INSURANCE AND YOUR COVERAGE We work closely with your insurance company to request coverage for all your home infusion medications, supplies, and nursing care. Our team will verify benefits and eligibility with your insurance company, request a prior authorization, if needed, and streamline the payment process.
Insurance companies often require additional information before home infusion treatment will be covered. This is called a prior authorization. Our pharmacy team will work with your insurance company and provider to obtain prior authorization.
We can work with you to identify financial barriers and determine if you qualify for any medication assistance programs. Before your care begins, a staff member will inform you of your financial obligations that are not covered by your insurance. These obligations include deductibles, co-pays, co-insurances, and annual outof-pocket limits. We will update this information if there is a change in your insurance plan. Please let our staff know if your insurance information changes.

ASSISTANCE WITH COVERAGE Your plan benefits may limit the services we can provide. Some drugs may not be covered by your insurance plan. You have the right to file an appeal with your health plan if your plan denies coverage for your medications or if you disagree with the coverage of your medications. The UAB Home Infusion Therapy team can help with the appeal process, and we will coordinate sending your prescription to an outside pharmacy, if necessary.
