Dedicated to preserving and restoring eyesight, UAB Callahan Eye Hospital is the only hospital in
Alabama solely focused on eye care, and the clinics provide patient care, education, research, and
outreach services of their own. Our ophthalmology surgery center is among the busiest in the country.

UA Health Services Foundation + Ambulatory Clinics
UAHSF administers the physician’s private practice plan and operates a number of primary care and
specialty clinics on the UAB campus and throughout greater Birmingham, offering medical services in
more than 35 specialties. UAHSF also maintains administrative, technical, and support departments.
UAB Health System
UAB Health System professionals work in various capacities to support UAB Medicine, member
hospitals such as Baptist Health, Medical West, and Valley Foundation, as well as the health insurer
VIVA Health.
UAB School of Medicine
The UAB School of Medicine is the medical college for the University of Alabama System, which
includes UA (Tuscaloosa), UAB, and UAH (Huntsville). It’s one of the nation’s premier institutes for
research, training, and patient care for the next generation of physicians, physician-scientists, and
biomedical scientists who are furthering patient care in Alabama and beyond.

Together we are led by UAB Medicine’s joint operational leadership committee (JOLC)
which is comprised of UAB School of Medicine Dean Selwyn Vickers, MD; UAB Health
System CEO Will Ferniany, PhD; Chief Physician Executive Tony Jones, MD; and three
other selected physicians. This shared leadership structure unites and aligns us and
