breakthroughs that have in turn placed us in the
top tier of research institutions in the United States.
We want to continue to innovate, even as the pace
of technological innovation and scientific discovery
accelerates.
Financial Performance
UAB Medicine is committed to achieving and
maintaining financial health. In order to do this, we
set and meet budgets, continually assess efficiency
of operations, seek sustainable sources of revenue
and philanthropic support, and find areas for growth.
We should be good stewards of our resources.
Patient Experience
We strive to provide the ideal patient experience and
pursue national recognition in patient care.
Patient Satisfaction
Providing the ideal patient experience is at the heart of
our business at UAB Medicine. We measure this goal
through patient satisfaction scores. Each patient is
asked to complete a survey and provide feedback,
which is then used to improve systems and processes.
Patient- and Family-Centered Care
Patient- and Family-Centered Care (PFCC) is our care
delivery system, through which employees partner with
patients and families to identify and meet their full
range of needs and preferences. We practice these core
concepts:
Dignity and Respect // recognize and honor
patient choices, perspectives, values, beliefs,
and cultural backgrounds
Information Sharing // provide patients and
families with timely, complete, and accurate
information
Participation // encourage patients and
families to participate in their care and
decision-making at the level they choose
Collaboration // coordinate with families in
policy and program development, facility
design, and more
Quality
We are dedicated to promoting quality and patient safety
in clinical care and excellence in education and research.
At UAB Medicine, everyone is responsible for quality care.
Reaching for Excellence (RFE)
RFE encourages the use of evidence-based tools and
tactics to help execute AMC21 objectives. You will receive
training on each of these techniques including:
AIDET // our preferred method of
communicating with patients, families,
and each other (Acknowledge, Introduce,
Duration, Explanation, Thank you)
Rounding // engaging and listening to patients
and employees to proactively address needs
and build relationships
Service Recovery // how we address
situations in which we did not meet our
customers’ expectations
