TERMS TO KNOW Every organization has its own common phrases, terms, abbreviations, lingo, and jargon. We understand that learning new terms and defi nitions takes time. This section will help you understand some frequently used terms. Advancement of Knowledge We pursue discoveries that lead to the development of new treatments and cures. Alignment and Integration Across organizations we collaborate and synchronize goals, systems, and processes to make us more efficient and effective. AMC21 AMC21 is the acronym for our strategic plan to become the Preferred Academic Medical Center of the 21st Century. Innovation UAB Medicine’s history is built on pursing innovative breakthroughs that have in turn placed us in the top tier of research institutions in the United States. Financial Performance UAB Medicine is committed to achieving and maintaining financial health. In order to do this, we set and meet budgets, continually assess efficiency of operations, seek sustainable sources of revenue and philanthropic support, and find areas for growth. We should be good stewards of our resources. Patient Experience We strive to provide the ideal patient experience and pursue national recognition in patient care. Patient Satisfaction Providing the ideal patient experience is at the heart of our business at UAB Medicine. We measure this goal through patient satisfaction scores. Each patient is asked to complete a survey and provide feedback, which is then used to improve systems and processes. Patient- and Family-Centered Care Patient- and Family-Centered Care (PFCC) is our care delivery system, through which employees partner with patients and families to identify and meet their full range of needs and preferences. At UAB Medicine, everyone is responsible for quality care. Reaching for Excellence (RFE) RFE encourages the use of evidence-based tools and tactics to help execute AMC21 objectives. You will receive training on each of these techniques including: AIDET // our preferred method of communicating with patients, families, and each other (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you) Rounding // engaging and listening to patients and employees to proactively address needs and build relationships Service Recovery // how we address situations in which we did not meet our customers’ expectations
