BIKING From our mountains to the broad valleys , our forested terrain means nearly infinite biking possibilities . Miles of historic railroad beds converted to rail trails , gravel forest service roads , and single track trails are all options when riding here . Check out the Allegheny Highland Trail just a block away from the hotel . This exceptional 24.5 mile scenic trail provides scenic views of the countryside as it passes through rural farmland . The West Fork Rail Trail is a pleasant 22 mile point to point trail that snakes its way through the remote mountains following the West Fork of the Greenbrier River for most of its route . About 40-minutes from Elkins , a dense moss covered forest awaits your arrival - Mower Tract . This area has some of the best single track for mountain biking in the state .
FISHING & RAFTING There are endless ways to spend the warm days losing track of time on our rivers . Whether fishing or rafting you can ’ t go wrong . About 30-minutes from Elkins , you can whitewater raft , rent a kayak or tube down the Cheat River by securing a spot with Blackwater Outdoor Adventures . The state has one of the best trout stocking programs in the nation . Each year , 800,00 lbs . of trout are stocked in our streams , lakes , and rivers . The Shavers Fork River is one of the longest , and easily accessible trout rivers in the county . The Elk River , called the “ Lady ” by locals , is known as one of the premier trout streams on the East Coast . In a state with no closed fishing season , trout enthusiasts come from all over to fish for rainbows , browns , brookies , and more .
