My New Flat
By Mary Spears
Hello to all of the Tyddyn Mon readers. It is that time
again when the newsletter goes out to everyone to let
all of you know what is going on in life. Well my name
is Mary Spears and I am one of the tenants in a
Tyddyn Mon house. I have been asked to let you all
know how I’m getting along since the last picture
that you saw.
Well, I moved into my new flat on the 21st of March 2016 with the support of Tracy Davies Tyddyn Mon,
Wendy Hughes (social worker), Chris Lawrence (community nurse) Nancy, and my core team. Since
moving to Holyhead I’ve been finding my feet and getting around town and going for picnics. My
independence has increased and I am able to use the buses to get to work, attend activities in the
community like going to Mencap discos once a month, and have plans to start using the local leisure
centre. I also attend the local slimming world and I am losing weight. Each week I plan a week’s menu of
what I’m going to have for tea and then I start to make a list of what I need. Then I go out with my support
staff to do the weekly shopping. I cook loads of healthy meals and start experimenting in new flavours
too. I am able to keep control of my budget and start planning on saving money to go on a lovely holiday
with my fiancé. I am now spending more time with my fiancé and enjoying it so much. This is thanks to
Tyddyn Môn for all of their help. I am much happier and I enjoy my independence and I can now see my
future only going to get better. I couldn’t ever be this independent without Tyddyn Môn support and
help. I wouldn’t be in Holyhead and living in the flat - I would have been in a respite home and not be so
independent and that won’t be fun at all. I now work three days a week - Tuesday at a riding school which
is in Trearddur Bay (which it has now changed to a livery yard last April and I love working with horses),
Wednesday and Friday I’m working at Tyddyn Môn which I enjoy, Thursday I go to slimming world which is
Llaingoch just up the road from me, Saturday I sometime go to gateway, Sunday I clean my flat, and
Monday off but hoping to work in a rescue centre in Holyhead. I’ll keep you all informed of what’s going
on so take care to all the readers and I hope that you enjoy the newsletter this month.
