Anyone who knows me knows that I am very passionate about politics and social development . Meeting young people from across the continent bringing with them knowledge and enthusiasm makes me look forward to the future . Seeing a General Assembly full of Transition Year students who want to unite us in diversity rather than conquer and divide is promising .

People have a misconception that to change the world you must be in a position of power or exceptionally educated on a particular cause . I strongly disagree ! As part of our Personal Development module students were invited to participate in Project ALLY : a prototype programme that encourages the development of friendships between students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and mainstream students . It was a tremendous success that has delivered visible results within my school community . I cannot emphasise the simplicity of implementing such actions in a community . If you are particularly passionate about a social issue and strongly believe that it is in the interest of your community to rectify this by any means possible then I urge you to take action . In the words of Mahatma Ghandi “ You must be the change you wish to see in the world ”.

My ultimate objective in writing this article was to prove to you that there is plenty of potential within you . The secret to a fantastic Transition Year is for students to have ambitious goals and a burning desire to achieve them , everything else stems from that principle . To achieve a goal , you have never achieved you must do things you have never done . I personally promise you that nothing is impossible if you commit yourself to hard work , enthusiasm and motivation . The fact that a man with practically no formal political experience and an awful fake tan can become President of the United States shows that anything is possible nowadays . Aim to benefit and better yourself and others in hopes of developing a greater future for all . Use what ’ s left of your Transition Year experience to fulfil this mission .
