Twice the Blue Glory

Total Holders of Two Blue Numbers: 217
• Ultra & Half: 215
• Ultra & Trail: 1
• Half & Trail: 1
Total Holders of Three Blue Numbers: 1
• Ultra, Half & Trail: 1
The total number of Blue Numbers that have been awarded to date is 9177, and this tally includes those numbers earned by a remarkable and highly exclusive sub-group of the BNC. Just 218 runners have achieved the distinction of earning Blue Numbers in two different TTOM races, with the majority doing it in the Ultra and Half, while two more have done it with a combination including the Trail Run.
Even more remarkable amongst those 218 runners is the achievement of Norrie Williamson, who is the only runner to date to have earned three Blue Numbers. He has 10 medals in the Ultra, 22 in the Half, and 11
Norrie Williamson in the Trail Run! If all goes to plan this year, Williamson will be joined on three Blues by Afzal Dhansy, as he currently sits on 10 Ultra, 18 Half and nine Trail medals.
While the runners with 35 or more voyages( just) in the Ultra are rightfully celebrated for their perseverance and longevity, there are some equally impressive long-standing heroes of the event amongst these runners with two Blues( or three, in the case of Norrie Williamson). If one adds up their combination of medals, this is the table of leading runners in this category.( Key: B = Blue Number in Ultra; LB = Light Blue Number in Half; K = Khaki Number in Trail Run)
43 Norrie Williamson 10B, 22LB, 11K 42 Kaare James 32B; 10LB 38 Boet van Zyl 28B; 10LB 38 Leo Benning 25B; 13LB 38 Peter Jakoby 25B; 13LB 37 Henry Jones 21B; 16LB 37 Gerald Sullivan 12B; 25LB 37 Afzal Dhansay 10B; 18LB; 9K 36 Peter Budde 26B; 10LB 36 Allan Johns 20B; 16LB 36 Theo Steenkamp 20B; 16LB 36 Cheryl Smith 13B; 23LB 36 Willemien Smuts 22B; 10LB, 4K 35 Ken Andrew 20B; 15LB 35 Robert Buck 20B; 15LB
Note: There more TTOM runners who have a similar number of medals in total, but may not hold two Blue Numbers, hence not appearing here. Watch for a future edition of this digimag for more on them.
