improvement was to provide a transfer
bench instead of a lift for the spa. As there
was limited space on the deck for both a pool
and spa lift, a transfer bench was designed.
The law only requires one “bench” but
to help persons with disabilities raise and
lower themselves on the steps, more were
added at in-between heights. It turned out
to be an attractive low-cost addition to the
pool area and is used both by able-bodied
and disabled guests.
Employee Training
The employees receive regular training to raise awareness and improve interactions with guests who have disabilities.
This means learning and understanding
terms such as transfer, roll-in shower,
visual alarm, and closed captioning. The
concierge was trained to request ADA
seating for guests making reservations in
Las Vegas showrooms.
Just being aware and putting forth a
good faith effort has helped this resort to
“do the right thing” by making the resort
accessible to all of its timeshare owners
and guests.
Amy Lowell is general manager at The
Carriage House.
