My husband , Charlie , and I embarked on a two-day road trip to Fontana Village Resort & Marina in Fontana Dam , NC , but our stay was marred by some accommodation issues .
Check-in was simple , and we were assigned a three-bedroom cabin in the woods , but the cabin ’ s exterior needed repairs and staining .

Inside , the cabin was quite dim , even with all the lights on . During unpacking , we realized the washer / dryer closet was empty , despite our expectation of finding these appliances .
To make matters worse , the phone in the cabin was inoperable .
Upon reporting these issues at the front desk , we were informed that RCI units don ’ t have washer / dryers , and some phones don ’ t work .
Due to the phone problem , they moved us to a two-bedroom villa on the main road , which , unfortunately , wasn ’ t in much better condition than the cabin but did have a functioning phone .
Inside the villa
The villa featured a combined living and dining room , with the living area furnished with a sofa-bed , loveseat , side chair , and an appealing stone fireplace . The dining room could seat six people . The kitchen was adequately sized , but the utensils , glassware , and silverware were limited and didn ’ t match .
The master and guest bedrooms both had queen beds , dressers , and nightstands . The master bathroom had a nice whirlpool tub , but the guest bathroom had doors falling off the shower stall . Maintenance attempted to fix them temporarily but advised against using the shower until a permanent repair could be made .
We managed to find 100-watt light bulbs at the General Store , which greatly improved our ability to read . Some of our linens were heavily worn and should have been replaced , and the bed pillows were not very comfortable . There were no clocks or clock / radios in the bedrooms or living room .
