No . 138 The Trusty Servant finding any excuse to talk about the mathematics of the game with his classes .
Michael Marcas ( CoRo , 21- 24 ) Tom Flowerdew ( CoRo , 22- ) writes :
Michael was Head of Economics for the past three years , during which time the department saw an improvement in results and growing numbers of students . He also contributed significantly to the wider life of the school , notably through the Young Economists initiative , as well as badminton .
Michael moves to St Mary ’ s Ascot where he is taking on the role of Head of Social Sciences . He will be deeply missed by colleagues and pupils alike , not least for his colourful taste in trousers , ties , bags and hot drinks !
Netta Claydon ( CoRo , 23-24 ) Alistair Henfrey ( Co Ro , 23- )
We are sad to be saying goodbye to Netta after an excellent year ’ s work in the English department .
It was a whirlwind of a start ; she was offered the post in exceptional circumstances , and had barely a moment to make her decision before term began . But thank goodness she agreed , and despite having less time to prepare than even a very experienced teacher would view as desirable , she rolled up her sleeves and got straight to grips with the syllabus , the exam specs , and the rhythms of Winchester . In fact , that is an abiding impression one has of Netta : someone who simply cracks on with the job at hand — efficiently , effectively , and uncomplainingly .
John Storey ( CoRo , 23-24 ) Andy Sparkes ( CoRo , 15- ) writes :
John ’ s year as Chaplain and classics don has in fact proved to be a year of transition for him as he determines his calling as a priest . That calling has proved to be the army . He will be heading off over the summer to take up his post as an army chaplain to 5 Rifles on Salisbury plain .
In this short time , in addition to the stalwart performance of his duties in Chapel and in the div room , he has , of course , assisted with the CCF , including winning last year ’ s charity race up St Catherine ’ s Hill , beating not only the boys , but also four serving Gurkhas .
Megan Tarry ( CoRo , 23-24 ) Dan Reeve ( CoRo , 20- ) writes :
Megan joined the College immediately after completing her maths degree at Durham University . She has thrown herself into the role of Junior Fellow in the Mathematic department and has taught across the school , from restless first years through to anxious top years .
She ’ s also spent time on St Catherine ’ s Hill with a CS group , coaching netball , and has been interviewed by Quelle , where she revealed that , while at school , she was the proud owner of a special maths tie . She leaves us to begin formal teacher training on a university based PGCE course .
Alan Smith ( Head Gardener , 11-24 ) David Rustell ( Head Groundsman ) writes :
The love and dedication Alan contributed to the school ’ s grounds is evident in every garden . Not only a great nurturer of plants , he also helped redesign and develop various areas around the College such as Bethesda Garden and War Cloister .
Alan has an innate ability to work in harmony with the ebb and flow not only of college life , but horticulturally ; he was an asset cherished within the college community .
