Out of five meets the athletics team won three , were 2 nd in one and 3 rd in another : arguably their best season . Our home meet was a real highlight , winning the overall competition as the Junior and Senior boys took 1 st place and the Inter boys 3 rd . Many of our athletes progressed to the County Championships in early June . There were impressive 1 st place finishes for Gus Bowden in both the High Jump and 400m hurdles , in the latter of which he broke the long-standing school record . JP pupil Osamede Aighe ( G , 23- ) won the junior boys ’ shotput title comprehensively and earned selection to represent Hampshire at the English Schools ’ Championships .
In Short Half , Soccer XI are unbeaten in six of their first seven games this season , with a promising group of Senior and Junior Colts coming up through the school to carry on the good form . King ’ s Silver Medal for Recitation Edward Thomson ( see above , thrice ) won Recitã this year with a deeply musical and moving recital of Dylan Thomas ’ s poem , ‘ Deaths and Entrances ’. Two years ago , the medal was won by his elder brother , William ( Coll , 18-23 ), reciting Larkin ’ s ‘ The Whitsun Weddings ’. Some years earlier , their father , Andrew Thomson ( Coll , 88-93 ) also won , with a rather less intense offering – a parody ( is it possible ?) of William McGonagall . The Trusty Servant is left wondering whether there are any other families out there with three ( or more ) monarchical medals currently in their possession . Do let us know !
And finally , an invitation The 6th Soccer XI ( Homeric epithet : mighty ) will play its 25th season in 2025 . Anyone who has ever enjoyed the privilege of participation in that glorious institution is warmly invited to a 6-a-side tournament and dinner , to be held on Sunday , 2nd November .
