No . 136 The Trusty Servant
After an hour or more , a rather flustered man showed up , bringing keys , and trying not to express his obvious annoyance at having been called away from his planned weekend ( I think it was the deputy chief librarian ); and I did my best to explain my view of what had happened . He insisted on taking me round to check several parts of the library to make sure that I had not interfered with anything sensitive or valuable while I had been alone in the library , and then ushered me out .
I suppose I listened to the Coronation service on the radio the next day , but there was no television available to me , either at home or at school . However , a film of the coronation ceremony and processions came round to local cinemas a week or so after I got back to school , and we were allowed to go into town to see it .
HK Mass Transit Testing
Tony Ayres ( CoRo , 69-09 ) writes in response to Keeping Connected 126 :
Nice to see the HK train project remembered ! I was told at the time that a key feature of the HK situation that Wykehamists were unable to replicate , was that some of the population believed they were accompanied by a Philip Pullmanlike daemon that sat on their back , and that if they left boarding the train until the last possible moment , there was a sporting chance that the train doors would , albeit temporarily , detach their daemon , and that they would then enjoy a few hours of freedom . But maybe that information was apocryphal .

Humby and Goddard the sequel
TS 134 ran an article in which Mark Pyper ( D , 60-65 ) explained the decapitation in 1962 of one of the bollards in Michlā passage . Known to subsequent generations as Eve ( to complement its complete neighbour , Adam ), both bollards were restored and unveiled in a ceremony at the start of Wykeham Day 2023 . Oratio Humbiana ( copies available from this office ) provided the Latin welcome by the Warden ; the Latin reply from ‘ Alumnus Pyper ’; and the English conclusion by the Headmaster . The unveiling itself was performed by Councillor Rob Humby , Leader of Hampshire County Council , who , having the same surname , graciously played the part of SR Humby ’ s relative .
