Salvete We welcome two new dons this Cloister Time , Shanti Mosher and Joye Abiola , and one revenant , Emma Macey , former Director of Art . Emma returns in a newly-created role , Dean ( Academic and Strategy ). We look forward to seeing what her artistic talents bring to the direction of the school ; she also looks forward to putting all she has learnt as Head of VIth Form and Director of Strategic Innovation at independent schools in Australia into practice . Shanti joins the English department from Peterhouse , Cambridge , where she has been pursuing a PhD on William Wordsworth . She is fond of walking , evensong , lighting design and ecology . Joye , who replaces Beth Mackintosh ( see below ), was head of Sixth Form at his previous school , and specialises in political philosophy and existentialism .

Tom Thomas ( Co Ro , Director of Studies , 18- ) writes :
Dr Beth Mackintosh joined Winchester College as the Head of Philosophy and Religious Studies ( PRS ) in April 2022 , having previously been the Head of Academic Enrichment and Scholarship at St . Swithun ’ s .
‘ Dr Mac ’ has been a fantastic teacher , Head of Department , and colleague ( she has also been a Day Tutor in Furley ’ s supporting the reintroduction of day pupils to Winchester ). There is a generation of Wykehamists who are in a far better position for having had her involvement in their education over the last two years .
They are ( as are we ) incredibly grateful for the care and diligence displayed in everything she has done to support their development whether up to books , in preparation for university , or through the excellent extracurricular academic provision that has been laid on . She will be greatly missed by pupils and colleagues alike .
She leaves Winchester College at the end of Common Time to take up a Head of Department position at Embley School with additional whole school responsibilities .
Pupil achievements Following success in Round 1 of the UK Linguistics Olympiad , Zachary Yen , Felix Edmondson , Harry Latimer and Sam Shi ( all Coll , 20- ) took part in Round 2 over the Easter break . Felix and Harry were in the top 21 competitors , and Sam in the top 43 competitors . Linguistics is currently trending at Winchester : 40 pupils entered the Olympiad this year .
The Chemistry , Physics and Biology departments all once again sent Wykehamists through to Round Two of their respective Olympiads . One of those prospective Olympians was Peiyan Han ( Coll , 20- ), who was awarded an Outstanding Cambridge Learner Award for earning the highest mark in the world for Cambridge IGCSE Geography in June 2023 .
The Inter-School Erasmus Philosophy Essay Competition was won by Louis Chen ( A , 23- ). Invited to discuss the nature of destiny , he examined the intertwining of destiny and fate in Western philosophies , before offering a neo-Confucian solution .
Two pupils have gained a prestigious Arkwright Engineering Scholarship : Darsh Gupta ( F , 20- ) is developing a reliable , portable , and sustainable system of transferring wasted thermal energy ; Lucas Hall ( B , 20- ), perhaps more frivolously , created a 1950s Remote Control Formula 3 racing car .
Sophia Liu ( H , 23- ) competed in the 2023 Youth World Sailing Championships in Brazil , representing China in the Female One-Person Dinghy ( ILCA 6 ) category .

However , returning to Queen ’ s Club in late March with partner Henry Nicholls ( A , 19- ) the pair overcame their Tonbridge opposition to take the prestigious Doubles title , the first Win Coll victory there for over a decade .
