He became a leading corporate lawyer and acted as the primary legal advisor to Hambros and was involved in the 1985 Westland Affair , Sir James Goldsmith ’ s abortive 1989 bid for British American Tobacco , the privatisation of British Steel , as well as many other major corporate deals . He was known for the good manners he displayed during his deals and his high moral standards . He loved Marx Brothers films and became an expert on Winston Churchill .
