Recent addition to Co Ro Nikhil Krishnan ( Co Ro , 22- ) has just published A Terribly Serious Adventure : Philosophy at Oxford , 1900-60 . Described as ‘ A lively , immersive account of the colourful and brilliant philosophers who roamed the halls of mid-twentieth-century Oxford and taught the world the importance of language ’, Dr Krishnan ’ s book , like the man himself , is original , erudite and entertaining .
Sustainability
The College gardeners have embarked on a wide-ranging new approach to the care of the College grounds , prioritising not only – as always – their skills in maintaining the beauty of our surroundings , but also their hospitality to all wildlife . Across the grounds , seed heads will be left to fall off or be collected by birds , and herbaceous plants will be allowed to compost completely in the borders , until new growth appears , giving plants and insects protection . To attract wildlife in to the College , fallen branches and twigs are being used to build log-piles for creatures ; bug hotels and bird feeders have also been placed around the campus . For plants and trees where cutting and pruning is suitable , the removed material is now being composted and reused wherever possible .

The school ’ s Sustainability Lead , Alex Clayton ( Co Ro , 15-23 ) points out that house meals present an ideal opportunity to put pressure on the school ’ s catering to make more environmentally-motivated decisions about provisioning . They could do worse than take a look at the cookbook devised by our awardwinning Earth Prize team Veggie for Schools , which proposes ‘ meals that schools can produce easily within their budgets , and with available equipment , which are nutritious , sustainable , and appetising to the children .’
Quelle , the school ’ s satirical rag , has challenged the leadership team to take a more serious look at the climate cost of its actions , from flying to Hong Kong for dinner , to sending Lords to Dubai : a complex issue in a proudly international school .
