Edward Lucas ( A , 76-80 ) has been selected as the Liberal Democrats ’ prospective parliamentary candidate for the Cities of London and Westminster constituency , a marginal Conservative-held seat .
Nick Botting ( G , 77-81 ) has been represented by Portland Gallery in St . James ’ s for twenty years . His most recent exhibition included subjects familiar to Londoners as well as favourite escapes from the city . Reviewed in The Daily Telegraph it included paintings of visitors to The National Gallery , the river , restaurants and bars , and by contrast the south coast and the Isles of Scilly . Timothy Lloyd ( Coll , 59-64 ) writes :
I retired as a judge in 2013 , but was able to continue sitting in the Court of Appeal on a part-time basis , which I did for a few weeks each year . Having reached the age of 75 in 2021 , I am no longer eligible for this so at last I have retired fully from the law .
One of my first retirement projects involved returning to undergraduate study , pursuing a distance learning degree course in Opera Studies at Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance . This was a leisurely process from which I graduated in 2021 . Unexpectedly , this led to an involvement in student representation which had not featured in my earlier educational experiences .
The next stage of retirement sees me spending more time playing the harpsichord , and enjoying my visits to the opera the more for having undertaken the degree course .
Queen ’ s Award for OW Business Partners
We congratulate Barney Mauleverer ( I , 88-91 ) and Alex Matheson ( C , 87- 92 ) whose business Fresh Marketing , has received the Queen ’ s Award for Enterprise for International Trade . They co-founded the business in 2006 . The announcement was made on the Queen ’ s 96th birthday and the Award is globally recognised as a standard of excellence .
