School Fabric
A new plaque has been dedicated in honour of Sir Thomas Browne ( Coll , 1616-23 ), doctor , philosopher , botanist and polymath . In celebration of his scientific achievements , there was an exhibition of his works in the Fellows ’ Library and a service of dedication in Chapel , followed by ‘ Going Circum ’ – the choir singing in procession around Cloisters for the blessing of the plaque .
François Lemoyne ’ s Annunciation ( 1727 ) has returned to the College after ten years on loan to the National Gallery , London . It was given to the School by John Burton ( HM , 1724-66 ) and hung above the altar in Chapel from 1729 until 1864 , when the wooden panelling ( now in New Hall ) was removed in preparation for William Butterfield ’ s new scheme . The painting was regarded as lost by 20 th -century art

Heritage Open Days 2022
The College will once again be putting on a programme of public events for Heritage Open Days , running Thursday 15 – Sunday 18 September . The annual national festival , funded by the National Trust , aims to open access to the country ’ s heritage treasures , and all events are free to attend . See Page 12 for cricket-themed talk .
This year ’ s theme , ‘ Astounding Inventions ’, will be celebrated with an electrifying science talk aimed at school-age children and their families , and tours of the school ’ s

Tombling Pot
Peter Tombling ( Coll , 46-52 ; HoDo , C , 73-84 , CoRo , 57-98 ) – former Collegeman , Maths don and Housedon of Cook ’ s – was a very fine pianist and a devotee of the works of Johann Sebastian Bach . In his memory his family have given a beautiful cup to be awarded annually for the finest performance of a work by Bach . The inaugural Tombling Pot is to be held on the evening of Tuesday May 10 th at 7.30pm , with performances on the organ in Chapel , and then in St Michael ’ s Church for other instrumental and vocal performances . The adjudicator , Libby Burgess , is currently performing the whole of the 48 Preludes and Fugues in all 48 counties in England .
