Fish Soc with a current membership of over 220 OWs . It is a rare and impressive achievement for a member of the non-teaching staff to make such a direct contribution to the lives of the pupils . Even those who did not shoot or fish knew him – as the man with the black labrador and the Patrick- Maclure-rivalling pink trousers .
On his retirement he and Julia were honoured by a unique dinner hosted by the Warden in College Hall with all the farm tenants and their wives . We wish him well after his move to his wife ’ s native Northumberland to pursue his love of shooting and fishing .

Housedons
At the start of Short Half , Alex Latter ( English , 19- ) will succeed Ian Fraser ( Biology , 91- ) as Master in College – not strictly a housedon , of course , lest pernickety Collegemen write in : College is an institution , not a house . Rupert Mercer ( Coll , 03-08 ; Classics , 18- ) has been appointed to succeed James Fox ( Biology , 06-12 , 13- ) as Housedon of Furley ’ s from Short Half 2025 .
Those who keep track of these things may have noticed an interesting turn of the tide . Assuming no unexpected changes of plan , the appointments above will put the science-maths : humanities ratio among the housedon body at 2:9 . It was 8:3 as recently as 2019 . All housedons are Renaissance polymaths , of course . And with our Director of Studies , Tom Thomas ( Chemistry ), due to be joined in the Corridor of Power by another chemist , Iain Smith from Oundle
( Second Master from Short Half ), all those arts graduates will need to watch their step .
