After a year studying the use of urban canals, he joined the Department of Extramural Studies, Birmingham University 1970-88. He emphasised the complex varied uses of the canal, quite apart from the boats, particularly the tow path. In a sense he was an architect manque and he would have considered doing a Town Planning qualification had he not disagreed with most of the tenets of British planning. Author of Canals in Towns 1976, The Historic Towns of Britain 1981, Exploring British Cities 1986 and numerous articles on canals and the environs of Birmingham. An accomplished pianist and organist( a scholar of Sir David Willcocks) and a member of choirs. He married( 1) Lousiette( Zette) Barron in 1968, marriage dissolved 1987, and( 2) Sally Cox in 1989, who survives him together with two daughters and a son from the first marriage.

Outside of his working life he found the time for many passions: Greenjacket cricket, opera, shooting and country pursuits, sports of all kinds, food & wine and gardening. He married Sarah Hogan in 1963, who died in 2018. He is survived by their 2 daughters; a son died in 2016.
Anthony Christopher Taussig( Coll, 52-57); died 3.4.2025. Brother of AJT. Sen Cap Prae 1956, Aul Prae 1957, Capt of Fencing. Exhibitioner Magdalen College Oxford 1957-61, 1 Cl Mod, 2 Lit Hum, Fencing 1959-60. He worked for the Inland Revenue 1960-64. Barrister 1966. Specialist in trust and revenue law( including pension schemes and variations of trusts) but also undertook work in other fields including real property, bankers’ securities and financial services. He had a long-standing interest in the work of housing associations and the related law. Author of Housing associations and their committees. A guide to the legal framework 1992. In 1991 he was appointed one of the Conveyancing Counsels of the Court. He helped progress low-cost home ownership and was a major supporter of Notting Hill Housing Trust( NHHT) and Shelter. He married Penelope Maufe in 1966, who survives him together with 2 daughters and a son.
William Stilwell Turner MC( B, 52-57); died 27.1.2025. Son of WRFT. VI 1956-7. RMA Sandhurst 1958-9, Rugby XV 1958- 9 and KOSB XV, which won Army Rugby Cup 1960-61, and BAOR XV 1967. KOSB 1959; Radfan 1964; Staff College 1972; Maj, Northern Ireland 1975-6, where he won an MC for commanding a company in a series of hazardous operations in the Ballymurphy area of Belfast; retired 1977. 1 / 52 Lowland Volunteers( TA) 1980-9 and charitable work in the Borders. His real love was the KOSB and his Jocks, and he led the fight to keep the Regiment when first under threat of amalgamation in the early 1990s, which was won. He was also an excellent dancer of reels. He married Gwendoline Scott in 2008, who survives him.

Research for Britain’ s National Physical Laboratory and then doctoral research in computer science at Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh. He freelanced with many organizations in the early days of computing, including the World Bank. Publisher of Software Maintenance News monthly magazine and partner in the Software Maintenance Consulting Group. Co-author( with Girish Parikh) of Tutorial on Software Maintenance 1983, and( with Athol Yates) of Siberian BAM Guide- Rail, Rivers, and Road / Includes North-East Russia’ s Siberian BAM Railway, Lena River & Kolyma Highway, 2001. Regional Vice President of the West Virginia Highlands Conservancy 1973 and anti-strip-mining activist. In 1980 he moved to New York’ s Staten Island and became an activist there, leading several campaigns for civic improvements

Oxford City Councillor( Lib Dem) 1995-2014; Sheriff of Oxford 2005-06, Lord Mayor 2006-07. Oxford Brookes University, MA in Creative Writing, 2016 and he founded a local poetry study group in north Oxford. He loved wildflowers, the English countryside and growing vegetables on his allotment, as well as cricket and collecting Wisdens. He married Margrit Jauch in 1964, who survives him together with their son and daughter.
