FTF ClearBridge Global Infrastructure Income

This is the best-performing fund over one and five years in a sector that offers inbuilt inflation protection

Inflation protection and diversification away from traditional sources have never been more in demand than in 2022 , and infrastructure is well positioned to deliver both . But according to Tom Sparke , investment manager and director at GDIM , these are not the only reasons for the asset class ’ s resilience this year . “ We currently hold infrastructure as a significant part of our portfolios , as it exhibits lower-than-average volatility , provides a useful yield and , lately , it has been benefiting from enormous public and private sector cashflows ,” he said . IA Infrastructure is the secondbest performing open-ended sector over the past year , its gains of 13.8 % putting it second behind only IA
Commodity / Natural Resources . FTF ClearBridge Global Infrastructure Income has done even better , its returns of 23.7 % putting it top of its sector over this time . It is also the best performer over five years , with gains of 65.3 %, and second best over three . This helps to explain why it is Sparke ’ s fund of choice in the sector . “ It has done well recently , especially in terms of risk-adjusted returns , and provides access to a global range of yielding assets , including energy facilitators , toll roads , renewables and airports ,” he said . These , together with developedmarket holdings in other infrastructure sub-sectors , make up 80 % of the fund ’ s net asset value . The remaining 20 % is in securities of developing countries .
