Joe advised him to step back and created distance between himself and the driver. The driver then lunged forward and pushed Joe in the chest. Joe and the Hull officers made short work of guiding him to the ground and placing him in custody. He remained hostile and agitated throughout the entire arrest and booking process. Back at the barracks Joe determined that this would be considered a 5th Offense OUI. Good job Joe! …… Tpr. Shawn Hatchell (SP Norwell) was monitoring the scanner when he heard Weymouth PD attempting to catch up to an erratic that they had received numerous code 22s about. The Weymouth dispatcher advised that the vehicle had just gotten onto route 3 south-bound. Being just a short distance south of where the vehicle had gotten on, Shawn pulled over and waited. A few minute later the vehicle drove past and Shawn pulled in behind it. After observing the erratic operation himself a stop was initiated. Once the vehicle had stopped Shawn approached and made contact with the female operator. While speaking with the operator Shawn observed her teeth to be dark purple in color. This made sense when she explained that she had just come from her friend’s house where she had been drinking wine. Shawn decided it was FST time due to this info combined with her slurred/slow speech, odor of booze on her breath, her having way to much trouble retrieving her driver’s license and registration, and numerous blank stares she was giving him. FSTs didn’t go so well for old purple tooth and Shawn advised her she was under arrest for OUI. She must not have seen that coming because she became instantly uncooperative and agitated. She pulled away from Shawn by dropping to the ground and crawling a few feet into the right travel lane. She then turned onto her back and began throwing fists at Shawn’s arms and kicking at his legs. While taking these strikes Shawn was able to drag her out of harms way and back into the BDL. He was able to get one of her arms cuffed but before he could get it tightened she had slipped out of it. She again began kicking at Shawn and sliding away on her backside. Shawn took a kick in his left leg and advised her that she would be sprayed if she did not stop resisting. She did not heed his warning and a healthy dose of OC was applied. This did not slow her down much but her lack of vision made it possible for Shawn to get the cuffs on her. EMS respond to the scene and she was just as uncooperative for them and refused treatment. Her uncooperative and unusual behavior continued during booking. She banged her head on the booking bench, screamed, refused to answer questions, and could not understand what she had done wrong. When asked why she had crawled into the right travel lane she explained, “I was just trying to get away from mad men, you had 10 officers there”. of the plates found that one of the vehicles was stolen. Sgt. Edward O’Hara reported to the scene to assist. Steve and the Sarge removed the single male occupant from the stolen vehicle and placed him in custody. Steve read him his Miranda rights and began to interview the subject regarding the vehicle. When he was asked where he got the vehicle from he shrugged his shoulders and said, “I stole it”. At least this guy was an honest thief. …… On a Saturday morning in early June Tpr. Joseph Rabbitt (SP Norwell) was half way through his mid shift when he observed a wrong way operator on Nantasket Ave. in Hull. Joe was able to quickly block the vehicles progress and make contact with the driver. The driver became immediately agitated and demanded to know why he was being stopped. While patiently explaining to driver that he was driving the wrong way on a one-way street Joe made observations that lead him to believe that he might be impaired. Joe asked the driver to step out for some FSTs and he complied but complained that he had not done anything wrong. While outside of his car the driver was becoming increasingly agitated; balling his fists and shifting his weight from side to side. At this time a few Hull Officers had arrived on scene as backup. Joe attempted to explain the HGN test to the driver but the he began moving uncomfortably close to Continued from pg. 8 had been.
