" The library is UCSD ’ s signature building . It was the first thing my family and I saw traveling down I-5 on our first visit to the campus . It left a lasting impression . My brother recalls that visit affectionately with his ' spaceship ' sighting comment ."

SPEAKING VOLUMES
Geisel Library certainly makes an impression on any Triton . We asked alumni for their favorite library memories — tell us yours at tritonmag @ ucsd . edu or on social @ ucsdalumni
“ First year at UC San Diego , from my window in Lower Third apartments , just beyond the eucalyptus trees : Central Library . I can still picture it !”
– PAULA THOMAS ’ 87
“ I remember the first time , freshman year , that my college roommates and I pulled an all-nighter at the library cramming for an MMW midterm . There was such a sense of relief to know we were not struggling alone — the library was packed ! Unfortunately , my lack of sleep led me to forget to write my name on my test booklet ! That was my first and LAST all-nighter at Geisel .”
– ARGIRIA WILLIAMS ’ 15
“ This may age me considerably , but Geisel was the first place I can remember searching for a book using a computer . Before that , it was the card catalog in its big wooden case .”
– DAVID DRAKE ’ 02 , M . ENG ’ 07
“ My favorite memory was the annual undie run through the library during the Fall finals week . If you were there studying late enough , you got to see the spectacle of the run . I ’ ve done both .”
– LAURA WILKE ’ 14 , MS ’ 16
I found some reelto-reel audio of my great-grandfather and various ancestors , and the audio / visual department at Geisel was able to put it on CD for me . I remember how open and excited they were to take on this random small project from a student — they were incredibly kind and giving .”
– KRISTIN GUY ’ 01
“ The building is so unique and striking , especially walking from the School of Medicine along Library Walk . Whenever I fly home from the Bay Area I try to spot it from above — the Snake Path and the library .”
