Obstetrics Journal Club Training Event
The Library & Information Service were facilitated by the
Obstetrics Journal Club in hosting an early morning
training event entitled “Making UptoDate Work for You”
on Friday February 21st, 2014 : (7.30-9.00am) in the Small
Classroom, School of Midwifery. The session was given by
Ms. Debbie Williams of Wolters Kluwer, Ovid.
Debbie gave a general introduction to the UptoDate
evidence based tool, and its processes of peer-reviewing
material and updating. Some of the features covered in the
sessions are as follows:

Library Association of Ireland in co-operation with the
Department of Science and Library and Information
Statistics Department of Loughborough University
commissioned a study on the status of Health
Librarianship and Libraries in Ireland. This review took
place between December 2010 and March 2011. As a
result The “Shelli Report”, Irish Health Libraries : New
Directions: report on the status of health librarianship
and libraries in Ireland was published by the Library
Association of Ireland, in 2011. A number of key
recommendations were forthcoming.
Recommendation one “ Identify champions and
promote visibility” is now being acted upon in the
form of this one day event aimed at sharing
experience and raising an awareness of marketing and
partnership good practice in the health librarian
community.
We hope to report on the events of this meeting in
our June issue.

The session was well received and attended. My thanks to
the School of Midwifery for making facilities available for
this session.
