Training Days at LIS
O
n Wednesday, February 20th, the
Library and Information Service
hosted a series of lunchtime
CINAHL training sessions for midwifery staff
and students. This training was facilitated by
Mr Richard Crookes of Ebsco and was well
attended b y departmental staff.
The training was geared towards novice and
intermediate users, covering elements of basic
and advanced searching, including CINAHL
headings searching and keyword searching.
The elements of limiting searches were
discussed and the manner by which searches
could be searched by specific fields.
Key results can be accessed in full text and
abstract easily and efficiently. Methods of
saving valuable searches for future use were
also discussed.
My thanks to the staff in clinical areas who
allowed their colleagues to attend this training,
it is much appreciated.
T
he Library and Information Service hosted a training event
for the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Journal Club on Friday,
March 22nd, at its early morning meeting. The training was
facilitated by Mr John Gilbert of Ovid Wolters Kluwer and provided
an introductory session for new clinical staff and also a refresher session
for the regular searcher.
New features of the OvidSP interface were demonstrated including the
My Projects facility and the use of exportation of graphics to PowerPoint.
For those who are unfamiliar with these features My Projects is a
research organisation area containing projects and folders where the
user may store citations, searches, text, results, full text, graphics and
many other items. It offers many output options for example print,
email or export options. The option to remove items from storage is
also available. Using your Ovid account ID you will be given access to
My Workspace which contains My Projects. Items from OvidSP that may
be added to My Projects are: search results, images from journals at Ovid,
text snippets, book chapters from Books@Ovid, journal articles, auto
alert results and saved searches.
Time saving techniques in searching were shared with the group.
Our thanks to Ovid for providing this free training service and to all the
clinical staff who attended.
