Rotunda Birth of a Nation
Inclusion in the NLI’s Web Archive
A
s you know, the Rotunda 1916 Commemorative Exhibition, Birth of a Nation, is now available online. Simply
visit www.rotundabirthofanation.net to access the beautiful history collated by us at the Rotunda Hospital.
The National Library of Ireland has been archiving the Irish web since 2011. As part of the NLI’s Programme
for 2016, it is collecting 400 websites that focus on the commemorations of 1916 and life in Ireland in 2016. Entitled
Remembering 1916 / Recording 1916 this archive will reflect the participatory nature of this historic year in A Web
Archive. We are proud to announce that, our exhibition was successfully chosen as one of the top five websites that best
remembers the events of 1916 and a copy of the website will be preserved in the NLI Web Archive for future generations.
International Open Access Week 2016
A
s part of International Open Access Week the Health Research
Board hosted a seminar called Open Access - Open in Action.
The seminar aimed at creating awareness of open access
publishing and the sharing of best practice in the discovery of open
access research.
Key speakers included Dr Kevin Lalor, Head of Languages, Law and
Social Studies, Dublin Institute of Technology, In his role as editor of the
Irish Journal of Applied Social Studies, Dr Lalor gave a paper on the role
of Open Access Publishing from an editor’s perspective.
Louise Farragher, member of the National Open Access Committee of
Ireland, explored the role of Open Access and Open Data in Ireland.
Finally, Aoife Lawton, author of The invisible Librarian and LENUS
Manager, introduced the audience to the concept of Plum Analytics
(EBSCO).
