n February, Mrs. Conner’s
fifth grade class wrote
letters to people of their
choice. Most people wrote to
actors and athletes to practice
how to write a friendly letter.
One of her students, Connor
Sampson, sent a letter to Texas
Rangers player, Adrian Beltre.
Sampson thought
he would write to David
Letterman when he was told
the assignment, but he later
chose Beltre.
Sampson was lucky
enough to actually hear back
from Beltre. He did not have
a firm reason why Beltre
would have chosen to reply to
him, but Sampson assumed,
“Because on the off-season
that’s when they usually reply
and I’ve gotten autographs
before.”
When Beltre replied, he
sent signed baseball cards. “I
thought
he would write me a whole
letter, like I asked him to,
but he just sent me the
autographed card,” said
Sampson.
The school assignment
turned into more than what
Sampson thought - he received
something that he will always
remember.
