Spoke 'n Revolutions Youth Cycling Volunteers The program volunteer’s role is to keep the youth cyclists aware of requirements and timelines and to closely monitor their progress during the application process. Providing guidance as needed. Monitoring includes, but is not limited to, guiding students to take first steps, such as, enrolling in a college prep curriculum beginning freshman year, taking the ACT/SAT’s in their junior year, and applying for financial assistance during their senior year. Each individual’s progress is carefully monitored. Financials Spoke'n Revolutions Financials Being a completely donor based organization, as far as financials are concerned, we spent every dollar. Which makes planning and expansion challenging. Since its inception, the Spoke'n Revolutions Youth Cycling program has successfully completed one short tour of 60 miles (in Edenton, NC 2010) and two long tours. The expense category totals for both long tours have flucuated slightly with an uptick in 2012 over 2011. For the 2011 Underground Railroad Freedom Tour, our major expenses were the rental of the van and food. Fuel cost was a very close third. For this tour in keeping with the theme, accommodations were mostly in the homes of our "Station Masters" and "Conductors". In 2012, the percentages bumped up a bit due to the Lewis and Clark Tour of Discovery being significantly longer. Just as well, the three highest expenses were van rental, food and fuel. Accommodations (Camping/Housing) dropped a couple of points due to our stay in state and national parks which are SUPER CHEAP. Total cost for the 2011 Underground Railroad Freedom Tour was $12,357.41 and the 2012 Lewis and Clark Tour of Discovery came in at $23,065.54. 2011 Underground Railroad Tour 2012 Tour of Discovery
