successfully navigate our expansion into Laurel County as well as increasing focus on our roads and infrastructure . We anticipate our Corbin Center construction project to begin and we have a couple of mini parks thrown in there too ! Of course , there ' s always things in the works that we don ' t know will pan out or not , but fingers crossed that there will be some new announcements as well ."
To Mayor Razmus , these improvements are an important aspect of continuing the growth of Corbin . " Without road and infrastructure improvements , you cannot expect private investment and growth in your community ," she said . " Safety and convenience of our public is also of upmost importance ."
In recent years , there had been much controversy about annexation between the cities of London and Corbin as London officials attempted to annex a property along I-75 near Exit 29 .
This sparked a contentious legal battle between Corbin and London , as there was ample potential tax revenue from both occupational taxes and revenue from alcohol sales .
However , the lawsuit filed against London by Corbin is in the process of being dismissed from the docket after London officials opted last year to repeal its annexation ordinances . In February of this year , Mayor Razmus attended a London City Council meeting to officially end the quarrel .
Of that meeting , Mayor Razmus said , " The hatchet is buried in my opinion . Our communities have too much going for them to be bogged down in petty fights ."
Late last year , long-time Corbin City Manager Marlon Sams announced that he would be retiring in April and that the commission would need to search for his replacement .
At the beginning of 2024 , the search for a new city manager began .
After a series of interviews and conferences amongst the council , it was determined that former Corbin Mayor Scotty Williamson would be replacing Sams as city manager .
The job of city manager is crucial in a city such as Corbin , as they are often tasked with dealing with the day-to-day management of the city .
Mayor Razmus anticipates a smooth transition from Sams to Williamson , stating , " I expect a smooth transition as Scott and Marlon worked together years ago , and Scott has vast knowledge of the government on both local and state levels . We have a great team here at the City of Corbin with great department heads and staff that are focused on the future . I ' m expecting a fabulous 2024 !"
