NEW ROLE , FAMILIAR FACE
Dr . DJ Washington graduated from Union in 2003 and is now a nationally respected leader in higher education . He has served as Vice Chairman of Union ’ s Board of Trustees , Director of Employer and Regional Engagement at the University of Notre Dame , and Senior Vice President of the Athlete Network . He specializes in recruitment and building relationships between students , parents , alumni , and community partners .
Washington has personally educated more than 400,000 college students , has conducted over 1,000 campus seminars around the country , and has worked with over 150 career center directors on campus initiatives and other programs . He frequently appears as a lecturer , panelist , and keynote speaker at a range of professional forums .
“ We are thrilled to have identified a highly
regarded and experienced president in Dr . Washington , who is keenly committed to his alma mater ,” says Mike Goss , Chairman of the Board . “ He will partner with faculty and staff to strategically lead the institution through this important transition .”
The Board is continuing their search for a long-term replacement for Hawkins and is considering qualified internal and external candidates .
A LEGACY OF GROWTH AND OPPORTUNITY
In addition to greatly expanding academic offerings at Union , President Marcia Hawkins has created many programs that will continue to benefit the campus and community after her departure . Here are a few of her greatest contributions :
