Jude Kamal is a registered Interior designer and the founder of Sansa Interiors . She was brought on by the family to give the space a much-needed update . " Because the home was built in the ' 70s and was designed to accommodate six nuns , it had a very traditional layout ," says Kamal . Before the reno , the house had a small kitchen , narrow stairways , and was encumbered by walls .
" The home was so well cared for , but the layout and style weren ’ t going to work well with small kids ," says Krista . " We wanted a more open space so it would be easy to see the kids while making meals and also to make the space feel bigger . It ’ s a big house but not sprawling and we needed to be smart about how to optimally use the space ."
Over the course of six months , Kamal and her team transformed the space into one that ' s modern , open-concept , and — according to the designer — completely unrecognizable . In addition to reconfiguring the main and second floors , the renovation added a new bathroom and extra bedroom , and enhanced the master bedroom and ensuite . " Using Scandinavian-like design , we were able to bring the fresh yet functional look that the homeowners were seeking ," says Kamal . " It is very light and earthy , with lots of natural materials like wood and stone . We kept it simple and neutral so that it lasts for a lifetime ."
