Designer Susan Jomha purchased this home brand new in 2003 . After 8 years in the home , they knew it was time for a change . They had a choice to make : move or renovate ? They loved the location and the decision was made to renovate the home to better suit their needs , for a few more years .
The project involved a complete renovation that started with the kitchen . Susan is the chef in the family and she does a lot of cooking from scratch , so it was important to create a space that would work well for her cooking style . The original oak kitchen featured an L shaped island with a bar height serving area . Susan wanted a rectagular island with waterfall edges but she needed to ensure the walkway into the dining area remained clear . By cutting the overhang about a foot before the edge of the island , she was able to leave enough room for a person sitting at the dining table to pull the chair back comfortably while keeping the walkways between the island and kitchen table clear . In order to make it look finished , the edge of the island was clad in a piece of Cambria countertop that runs horizontally and about 6 ” above the
