Making Holiday Wishes Come True
TRC ’ s Grand Rapids and Ann Arbor , MI offices came together ( pre-COVID-19 ) to support the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries ’ ( DRMM ) holiday gift program . Each year DRMM , through the generosity of individuals , families , churches and businesses is able to help over 300 families from the Detroit area receive Christmas hope and gifts . TRC employees sponsored four children from two families by fulfilling their Christmas wish lists and needs . Sponsors are asked to provide a minimum of six ( 6 ) gifts per child and are welcome to donate gifts for the parents as well . Employees made the event a celebration with a flannel shirt-themed wrapping party and lunch , before dropping the gifts off to DRMM .
Uniting to Give Back to the Community
TRC ’ s Scarborough Office Sustainability Committee organized a donation drive last July to raise money for the Preble Street Resource Center in Portland , Maine . The Preble Street Resource Center provides a variety of services to the homeless and housing insecure , and with the challenges of this pandemic , has transformed its soup kitchen into a permanent food production and distribution facility , preparing and distributing meals to local shelters , the YMCA , and small groups throughout the Portland area . Through a series of emails , employees shared personal videos explaining why they are supporting this cause . The two-week drive raised over $ 2,000 and was donated in memory of the mother of an employee , who was lost to COVID-19 .
Chicago
TRC ’ s Chicago and Burr Ridge , IL offices formed a team to participate in a 6-week – 30 , 60 , or 120- mile individual challenge by walking , hiking , running , biking , or paddling . Each participant tracked their miles online and as a team exceeded 1,329 miles . The challenge included a donation made by each participant . The Food Run collectively raised over $ 9,500 for local Illinois food banks and hunger relief programs .
