ENGAGING IN OUR COMMUNITIES Earth Day One of our key Sustainability initiatives is an annual program supporting Earth Day engagement events. We encourage all our offices to invite friends, family, and clients to take part in Earth Day volunteer activities to build awareness in our offices and communities. Earth Day provides a great opportunity to work with our colleagues across the company in support of our Vision of Solving the Challenges of Making the Earth a Better Place to Live. In April 2018, TRC celebrated Earth Day with its third company-wide initiative in which each office was encouraged to participate in a local event to support environmental awareness and stewardship. Over 600 employees from 34 offices participated in Earth Day activities in April 2018 These initiatives included community cleanups, office recycling, bike-to-work events, and many more. These initiatives deepen employee engagement, promote health and safety, minimize our footprint, and support TRC’s 2020 Sustainability Objectives. 44 2018 Sustainability Report A few highlights include: ■ ■ The Lakewood and Fort Collins, CO offices held an Earth Day Challenge during the week of April 16 – 20, encouraging employees to engage in sustainable activities and log their progress. Eligible activities included avoiding disposable products, reducing trash, volunteering at Earth Day events in the community, going “paper free,” and utilizing low- pollution transportation. The top scorers received a reusable bag filled with products that encourage conserving, reusing, and recycling every day. ■ ■ On April 20 and 21, a group from our Baton Rouge, LA office participated in an event called BioBlitz. TRC employees and their family members joined local naturalist scientists to document biodiversity and identify as many species as possible at the Greenwood Community Park. The goal of the event was to foster appreciation for Baton Rouge’s biodiversity through hands-on exploration. This effort also helped to provide valuable baseline data to a local conservation program on the distribution of species in the area.
