SAFETY – OUR PRIORITY
At TRC, we understand that our success depends on our
ability to provide a culture where safety is a priority and
is inherent at all levels of the organization. Our executive
safety council comprised of our CEO, CRO, and our
General Counsel, as well as representatives from each
of our four operating sectors and Human Resources,
provides oversight and leadership for the safety program
at TRC. The council meets monthly and is led by TRC’s
National Safety Director.
In addition to the Executive Safety Council, TRC relies
on our Office Safety Coordinator (OSC) network, which
is a key factor in supporting safety initiatives and com-
municating safe work strategies to employees. The OSC
network continued to grow in FY18, comprising more
than 90 team members. OSCs help address risks identi-
fied with project work and are a direct resource to staff
in their immediate and local offices. TRC continues to
invest in the OSC network by hosting an annual confer-
ence and providing technical training and safety leader-
ship skills to the OSC team members.
SAFETY IS EMBEDDED IN OUR CULTURE AND
INTEGRAL TO HOW WE CONDUCT OUR BUSINESS
Our safety recognition program is used to identify best
practices and promote safety leadership throughout the
organization. Employees who are nominated through
the program may receive commendation at a local team
meeting, be featured in TRC’s employee newsletter or in
one of TRC’s safety bulletins communicated to all em-
ployees, and/or receive a monetary gift/award.
With a significant number of employees driving vehicles
on behalf of the business and working in field locations,
the primary causes of work-related incidents in FY18
were motor vehicle incidents, slips and falls, and biologi-
cal hazards. To reduce the risks associated with these
hazards and continually improve safety performance,

2018 Sustainability Report
TRC’s executive safety council along with our safety
department developed strategies to mitigate identified
hazards. Key initiatives included:
■ ■ Improvement of our hazard recognition program and
collection of leading indicator data. The program saw
a significant increase in Safe Catch reports and safety
observations/audits from employees.
■ ■ Implementation of an electronic app for perform-
ing safety observations and submitting Safe Catch
reports.
■ ■ Increased focus on DOT and Motor Vehicle Safety.
TRC utilized technology to adhere to the new DOT
Electronic Logging Device (ELD) requirement and
implemented a telematics pilot program to enhance
fleet safety management, inclusive of additional driver
assessment and training.
■ ■ Investment in an Electronic Incident Management
System (Intelex) to improve our incident notification,
medical management, and investigation process,
and to promote more timely and effective corrective
actions and lessons learned.
■ ■ Conversion of our Health and Safety Management
System from the OHSAS 18001 format to ISO 45001
to align with industry best practice. TRC understands
a systematic approach provides a more consistent
and sustainable method of managing occupational
safety.
As TRC continues to grow organically and through ac-
quisition, our safety program must continue to evolve in
order to be transitional and sustainable for our existing
and new employees. Areas of focus for our safety pro-
gram in FY19 include Business Continuity and Disaster
Recovery; enhancing our employee on-boarding pro-
gram through mentorship, training, oversight and other
touchpoints; and implementing technology solutions to
efficiently analyze data and enhance our program.
