EARTH DAY Earth Day provides a great opportunity to work with our colleagues across the company in support of our Vision of Solving the Challenges of Making the Earth a Better Place to Live. In April 2017, TRC celebrated Earth Day with its second company-wide initiative in which each office was encouraged to participate in a local event to support environmental awareness and stewardship. EMPLOYEES FROM 23 OFFICES PARTICIPATED IN EARTH DAY ACTIVITIES IN APRIL 2017 These initiatives included community clean-ups, office recycling, bike to work events and many more. These initiatives deepen employee engagement, promote health and safety, minimize our footprint and otherwise support TRC’s 2020 Sustainability Objectives. A few highlights include: ■ ■ The San Ramon office chose to divert waste from their local landfill and support their community for Earth Day. The office collected two boxes of clothes and shoes for donation to Savers, a local thrift retailer. Savers will sort through the donations and provide affordable items for families as well as provide donated materials to local nonprofits. ■ ■ A few years ago, TRC’s Madison office adopted a local highway along U.S. Route 12. As part of their continued effort to keep their community clean, employees volunteered to clean up their section of the highway on Earth Day this year. ■ ■ In partnership with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP), the Parks & Trails New York (PTNY) held a statewide event, “I Love My Park Day.” New York City employees participated in the sixth annual event. The day was spent removing invasive plants, building park benches and picking up trash. ■ ■ The Ronald McDonald House was very appreciative of the work that several TRC employees from our Tulsa, OK office and their families donated in April. The volunteers were able to work on the flower beds by providing soil, mulch, plants and hanging pots. They also assisted by washing windows. 41
