2020 Target
To measure our progress, we have focused on Class C-H vehicles weighing between 4,000-10,000 pounds, which represent approximately 75 percent of our total fleet in a given year. Since establishing our baseline, we have achieved a 2 percent decrease in emissions per mile for our Class C-H vehicles.
We established new vehicle replacement guidelines in FY15, which included mechanisms for targeting more fuel efficient vehicles. We encourage replacing vehicles on a frequency cycle that ensures our vehicles are operating as efficiently as possible while limiting the maintenance costs that can rise with older vehicles. This strategy weighs financial, environmental, and safety factors to set criteria for recommended vehicle replacement.
We also promote reductions in business travel emissions in other areas by:
> > Encouraging employees to rent the appropriate vehicle for the job while considering cost and fuel efficiency,
> > Leasing offices near public transportation and efficient commuting routes,
> > Allowing flexible work arrangements where appropriate, such as working from home and telecommuting, and
> > Encouraging employees to use public transportation where possible and effective, including offering reimbursement for public transportation fees in select locations.
