2020 Target

Prioritizing Health and Safety

Safety is a paramount component of our culture. Our executive safety council, comprised of our CEO, CFO / CRO, and our General Counsel, as well as senior representatives from each of our four operating sectors and human resources, provides oversight and leadership for the program. The council meets monthly and is led by TRC’ s National Safety Director, Mike Glenn.
Our Office Safety Coordinator( OSC) network is a key factor in supporting safety initiatives and communicating safe work strategies to employees. The OSC network continued to grow in FY16, comprising more than 70 team members. OSCs help address risks identified with project work and are a direct resource to staff in their respective offices.
We use our health and safety management system, which follows OHSAS 18001, to communicate roles and responsibilities, identify hazards, and implement effective controls to minimize risk to employees and contractors.
Our safety recognition program is used to identify best practices and promote safety leadership throughout the organization. Employees who are nominated through the program may receive commendation at a local team meeting, be featured in TRC’ s employee newsletter, be featured in one of TRC’ s safety bulletins communicated to all employees, or receive a monetary gift / award.
We had zero non-compliance incidents with health and safety impacts from our services within the reporting period. As a quickly growing business, however, we had a number of challenges, including an increase in biological incidents associated with field projects, such as insect bites and poison ivy.
