ramped up again— magnificent rock formations and beautifully empty green-coded routes. A final coffee at Bar Nuria in Lamadrid and then onward to Llanes under clear skies. Our apartment was easy to find with great parking. We walked up to the Paseo de San Pedro overlooking the sea, storm clouds building in the distance. As the first drops fell, we darted back toward Plaza Parres Sobrino and its cluster of shops and bars.
The next day was a washout— a perfect excuse for a rest day and some heavy-duty GPS route planning. I love route plotting, even the longwinded way.
We set off the following morning for Besoy, just southwest of Potes— a day of A-MA-ZING roads. A coffee stop near a climbing centre provided entertainment as we watched brave souls scaling a near-vertical rock face. They probably thought the same about us on bikes.
Views were endless. Puerto de San Glorio, at just over 1600m, was clear of snow on the road, which was a relief. After fuelling up, we found our rural apartment, La Bárenca. It exceeded expectations, and with an upgrade and two extra nights, came to € 58.50 a night— jacuzzi bath, kitchenette and access to the spa. Budget travel at its finest.
