15 kilometres along sheer drops with heart-stopping views over the Indus, and then Tato, far below. For many travellers, this thrilling ride is part of the allure— the road itself is an adventure worth remembering.
The jeep track ends at Tato village, a small, traditional settlement that clings to the mountainside. From here, you set out on foot for a three-hour trek through pine forests and alpine pastures. The trail climbs steadily, the air growing fresher and cooler with each step, until suddenly the trees open to reveal a vast meadow of emerald grass, snow-fed streams, and, looming beyond them, the colossal white pyramid of Nanga Parbat.
Fairy Meadows is a plateau at an altitude of 3,300 metres, and from its edge rises the Rakhiot face of Nanga Parbat, considered one of the most spectacular mountain walls in the world.
