It ’ s an ghostly story that makes the nearby forest feel more so , and yet it was just a sample of what was to come .
Similar stones were found scattered all across the nearby countryside , none as spectacular yet all with a story to tell that no-one can be certain of . This of course led to castles , fortifications , and Christian graveyards as we headed further north toward Inverness . Abbeys and churches , cemeteries , and monuments .
Right across the landscape south of the Moray Firth lay castles , fortifications , and homesteads all relating to an era that is far too distant to comprehend . Duffus Castle a standout , figuratively and literally , as it sits atop a small hillock
