and enjoy the atmosphere , and who were we to disagree ?
A few beers in and out came some form of homemade moonshine . It was perfectly clear ; I took that as a good sign . It smelled something like rum , another good sign . The Taste was like it was supposed to run high performance racing machines . With such hospitality it was hard to say no , one sip no more , everyone laughed as we both displayed an involuntary reaction to the foul-tasting liquid .
Walking through the Patan Durbar Square , a historically significant site within the Kathmandu Valley , indeed all three such Durbar , or royal palace squares , are significant enough to receive a UNESCO World Heritage listing , it was clear that something was happening as part of the festivities .
Too many drummers to count had formed in the square , claiming positions on steps of temples and shrines . Many local people had gathered and as they did , so the drumming started , a cacophony of rhythm that seemed never to stop . Mesmerised by the sound I looked around to see people taking up all vantage points it was indeed a spectacle that was without end .
