Great Adventurers Alastair Humphreys 2019 ISBN 978-1-7874162-6-0
OK , so this is a kids book . So what ? Alastair Humphreys has compiled a great collection of explorers , travellers , and adventurers in Great Adventurers .
Each of the twenty stories is short enough to keep children enthralled in the expeditions of at times famous explorers and other times relative unknown travellers . It works and it works and it works well , evening keeping kids who are many decades older engrossed in it all .
Of course there ' s stories of daring and misadventure yet the most poignant aspect of Great
Adventurers is that each story is a life lesson for little ones , as actually travel should be for those a little older .
Along with the stories ,
Humphreys has brought in the aid of Kevin Ward who magically illustrates the text enough that a child ’ s imagination can be driven to run wild .
Regardless of age , Great
Adventurers is a book that everyone will enjoy .
Back Roads To Monte Perdido Duncan Gough 2019 ISBN 978-0-9957454-6-9
Duncan Gough is at it again , as only Duncan Gough can do .
Back Roads To Monte Perdido is Gough ' s account of eight days of riding Spain in the area of Paradors of Limpias , Sos del Rey Católico , Bielsa and Santo Domingo de Calzada . In his own beautiful way Gough has provided a tour itinerary that takes the rider through the regions with tips on what to explore and be part of .
Each day is provided as a short chapter with an overview including sights and distances , it then follows on in detail the directions of the route , although Gough is probably the first to point out that he likes to go with the flow , occasionally becoming lost in the place and the moment . His notes could be used just as a guide .
Of course , and as with all of his books , Gough has illustrated Back Roads To Monte Perdido with his own hand drawn maps and images depicting the locations , all are done with the ease of an artist in ink and water colours adding a personal touch to the book . There ' s also a great selection of photographs depicted the travellers location . Gough ' s books are light in pages yet plentiful in heart and soul . Travelling Spain ? We can ' t recommend Gough ' s works enough , especially Back Roads To Monte Perdido .
