A café con leche was offered as I made my way toward the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception , the Catedral de la Inmaculada Concepcion , to witness the plaza de la ciudad come to life , the Parque Principal Barichara . A perfect way to start the morning before a ride into the surrounding hills of this part of the world , and what a ride it would be .
The late afternoon sun had lost some of its sting as it slipped beyond the peaks that played host to the Rio Suárez , the heat of the day remained . We watched on from the Mirador de Barichara , an ice cold Aguila branded cerveza hitting the spot , this cliff top bar the perfect end to a riding day before heading back a few streets to witness the evening life of Barichara .
People came and went , Tuk Tuk ’ s transported tourists and locals alike , the plaza a hove of activity , it seemed that with the dusk came a new life . Streetside tables filled with families and friends enjoying an early evening meal , bars oozed laughter that filled the square , friendly banter echoed throughout the nearby narrow streets . An evening lifestyle based around coming together through community is the norm in many parts of Latin America , yet the Colombian people take it to the next level .
It ’ s a comfortable lifestyle that welcomes all and the streets of Barichara seemed to pull everyone in like nowhere else , the moment a traveller ’ s foot touches a cobble they are drawn to the cultural aspect of this life , for Barichara is not about
enticing the tourist dollar but more about enriching those that venture amongst her streets .
As I walked those enriching streets , it appeared , like a sign , a reflection of my feelings , “ Yo ‘ heart ’ Barichara ” … indeed I did love Barichara . LW
