TRAVEL - INDIA

EMILIO SALVATORI & CHRISTINA ZOLI

CREATED BY PROVIDENCE

Like salmon in the current we are ready to be dragged into the tumultuous flow of Delhi traffic among enormous and colourful trucks , cars and taxis , tuk tuks , carts , bicycles and above all many , many motorbikes .

Motorcycles that in their thousands seem to be the favourite means of transport for the Indians , capable of transporting them with their tiny engines , entire families , one , two , three , four , five passengers at the same time or loads of merchandise that never seems to end .
Leaving the refined atmosphere of the Delhi dealership hall to immerse oneself in the frenzy of city traffic isn ’ t easy . What awaited us was an endless and chaotic flow of moving vehicles , a river in perpetual movement accompanied , always , by the incessant noise of horns .
“ Horn , please ” is the invitation written on the back of all the trucks we encountered on the road , but we would discover that it does not mean : “ hey , get over there ”. Rather , its meaning is more similar to " hey , watch out , I ' m coming ", almost as if the kindness that characterises these people has been able to adapt to this mode of traffic , making the noise more acceptable . And this is how , kilometre after kilometre , we too became part of this world and soon , with ever greater safety , we were outside the city which , with its 26 million inhabitants , is the most populous in India .
For two , with a fair amount of luggage , the Royal Enfield Himalayan on which we were travelling immediately proved to be the perfect motorbike for a journey to discover a country like this where reliability , riding comfort , travel autonomy and easy handling are more important characteristics than absolute performance . And the Himalayan seemed to have been born for this .
