Chocolate is a much-revered drink in Colombia , breakfast , or bedtime , with or without milk , even served with cheese on top , yes , that is a thing called santafereno . Drinking is preferred above eating and it ’ s hard to be disappointed with either . The ladies at Xué Chocolate Artesanal served up both , making it hard to refuse as they continued a history lesson on cacao and how it eventually becomes chocolate .
Thoughts of nibbling blocks of chocolate washed down with a coffee flooded over me as we headed deeper into the Colombia forests . I could no longer look at commercially available chocolate and believe it was the real thing for here amongst the deep greens was a plant that produced a natural product that when processed tastes like nothing available on a supermarket shelf .
