shooting and what is the intended end product ? The starting point , something that most of us have , especially when travelling , is a smart phone . For many people , a smart phone is a good enough camera to shoot their travels . Smart phone manufacturers go to great pains to highlight the advancement of their cameras , yet most photographers know that these still come nowhere near even the most basic of Digital SLRs or mirrorless cameras .
If you intend for nothing other than to have your images displayed on your phone or at best social media then a smartphone could be for you , however , be prepared to have images that often don ’ t allow for a level of creativity that can be controlled by a traditional format camera , or more to the point a different form of creativity . Smart phones don ’ t have the versatility of dedicated cameras or the versatility of full control of what and how you shoot .
A dedicated camera also has much greater resolution than that of a smart phone despite the myth perpetuated by the phone manufacturers . Sure , the latest smart phones can have a resolution size of around 48 megapixels whilst the latest pro-offering from a company like Nikon is 20.8 MP , less than half yet the image quality of the latter far surpasses the former .
