People in group settings can not often be asked to have their photograph taken and in these situations it is rarely a problem . If you do sense it becoming a problem seek permission , or understand the situation , often you just have to move on .
Occasionally the subject will ask for money . There ’ s no right or wrong to this , it is purely a decision to be made by the person in front and behind the camera . If you are asked for money , consider would you pay for an image in a magazine or postcard ? A few dollars , generally less , is a small price to pay for a chance to create your own image . And should someone say “ no ”, simple respect their decision and move on , yet be polite and don ’ t just walk away , take the opportunity to build a friendship .
People in an image provide a sense of life as well as scale so it is well worth the effort often required to gain a trust and ultimately the image . If you are able to , show the person the image and even offer to send them a copy . With a basic understanding of what to shoot , when and how , the next area to be tackled should be the gear .
