operate , the TFT screen is well positioned and easily read , the functionality simple to navigate and use . Keyless ride is also a nice touch yet not essential .
We were all in agreeance that the R1250GS is a great touring bike , more than capable of handling rougher conditions , yet as a series overlander where the adventurous rider might want more challenging riding , a more suitable , that is , lighter bike should be considered . There ’ s also the width , consider whether you ’ ll be negotiating tight traffic , the big Beemer doesn ’ t cope well , especially loaded and dealing with the packed roads , and stop start nature of South-East Asian traffic .
The BMW R1250GS isn ’ t the prettiest bike , it ’ s certainly not to everyone ’ s taste , but there ’ s no denying that it is recognisable , a bike that even non riders can appreciate . If it ’ s touring , sealed or gravel , then the bigger GS could be right .
With BMW set to release the latest R series GS , the 1300 , the market could soon see an increase in 1250s , the time could be right to consider a second-hand bike , if you want a big BMW without the high price of brand new .
