TRAVERSE 15
Whilst the city drivers are mostly courteous and aware of their surrounds they seem to willing ignore a gaggle of BMW GS ’ s , at times brushing close without concern . It ’ s not deliberate just a consequence of a culture that has yet to embrace the motorcycle .
Following close to the Kazakhstan border , the team at RusMotoTravel are open to the fellow travellers , a combination of English and Russian speaking riders . Russian an advantage in a country that has embraced the language as their own . Our route is one that circumnavigates Issyk Kul , the ‘ warm lake ’, the World ’ s second largest saline lake . At an altitude of over 1,600 metres , it also provides a unique landscape with snowcapped vistas and green plains . The early travellers of the Silk Road understood the importance of Issyk Kul , as did the Soviets , who took advantage to create a unique tourism experience . Many of the structures remain , an interesting aspect of this ride , one that we are encouraged to experience .
Issyk Kul is now surrounded by family-owned businesses that cater to tourism
